    • I want to share something with you today. Let's imagine that I walk up to a shop and I ask to buy Pepsi, what I would be given would be a bottle that contains Pepsi, right? Right. Now, if I get home, finish the Pepsi and pour water in the bottle instead and if I put it in a fridge and 5 minutes later, call my younger sister to get me water from the fridge, what would she bring me? She would bring me that same bottle of Pepsi which now contains water, right? The question is 'how did the same bottle change from being seen as Pepsi to being seen as water?' _ This analogy was one God gave me on the subject of identity 2 years ago to show me that a container is primarily defined by what it carries. That Pepsi bottle for instance, suddenly moved from being seen as Pepsi to being seen as water because its content changed. _ Now, I ask you. What do you carry? Who lives inside of you? Who are you? I guess this is my takeout for us today. It's about time we stopped defining ourselves by mere labels of the things we've accumulated on the outside and begin to define ourselves based on a revelation of we are from within, instead. Your identity is a big deal and once you have it revealed to you, it influences everything. So again, I ask you. What do you carry? Who lives inside of you? Who exactly are you? You don't have to answer here.     • I.D.E.N.T.I.T.Y: If you were asked to define yourself in your own words, who would you say you are? _ Personally, I've always found answering the 'who are you' question really hard; and that's because a lot of times, I find myself stuck between what I do, the woman I think I am and who is asking. I could describe myself as many things - as a woman, African, Nigerian or Yoruba; as a sister, daughter or a friend; as a writer or a social entrepreneur. However, while these labels are true, they either limit me to an identity that is not uniquely me, describe me by virtue of my relationship with other people or define me by the things that I do. _ A lot of us define ourselves by that last one most of the time. We feel great when we are introduced as a ‘CEO or a founder or a doctor’ and we feel terrible when we have nothing we are doing because somehow we’ve carved our identities from our work, forgetting that there is more to us than our jobs. Now, while it is okay to describe ourselves however we please, depending on the context or platform on which we are being asked, it is also very important to know that our identities form a big part of how we see and carry ourselves, which is why beyond all of the titles we give out to people, there is a revelation of ourselves that we should have – a revelation which is solid, unchanging and true, and which we may not necessarily announce to everybody but which we would know and carry in our hearts everywhere we go. On the blog, I attempted sharing a few of these revelations with you.     • I.M.A.G.E: One time, my boss asked me at work to help him wash a particular fruit. I washed it the best way I could but when I brought it back to him, he said it was still dirty and asked that I washed it again. As I washed it the second time, I implemented all his corrections and did a much satisfactory job but I remember expressing a bit of surprise at the situation, because the way I had washed it earlier was exactly the way I wash the fruit whenever I had to eat it. Apparently, it could have been better but I didn't know, because that was what I was used to. _ Today I had a conversation with him about being the best version of myself and my mind went back to that day he had asked me to wash the fruit. How come I didn't know how best to wash it? It was because I had grown up seeing a repeated method of washing that fruit and I had gotten so used to it, I didn't see anything wrong. What if I had grown up in a house where I had watched people clean that fruit so meticulously? Truth is, I would have imbibed that method too and wouldn't have been satisfied leaving residues on it for anyone to eat. _ Today, I realized that in becoming the best version of me, the images I'm currently exposed to play a huge part. I've asked myself 'how do people just get some things right? How do they just know how to do certain things?' and the answer to that is image - {or in other words, the things their minds are being exposed to}. My pastor said it yesterday in Church as well, that we cannot really produce what we've not seen, and it's the truth. So now I'm asking you - what images do you have in front of you? Which of them do you have to change? If you have to read, read. If you have to travel, travel. If you have to meet new people, network. Whatever you have to do to put the right images in front of you, in becoming the best version of yourself, do it, cos ultimately, our lives are a mirror of what is constantly being modelled before our eyes.✌ _ 18|03|2019 #todaystakeout
